Be kind to yourself, it's ok to start over.

Stress and life just cause my moods to be all over the place on any given day, I can never predict or call it. I am also a moody Cancer too, so there's also that I have working for me.

But when you have goals that you want to, or sometimes even have to meet daily, and you feel yourself becoming over whelmed with that to do list, it can start to weigh on you and begin to stress you out even more. It happens to me so often & I had to get real with myself about why and what I could do about it. I decided to make some changes, one by one, step by step until it became a routine for me.

Now, its not a routine I follow every day, but I notice when I do these things, my days tend to go alot better.

  1. I wake up early.

By early, I mean, I give myself time to really breathe before having to work. I noticed that I was waking up and just rushing to get ready for work and that wasn't good for my mental health and it was honestly really stressful. I am not a morning person and everybody around me know this, and they can see a difference when I give myself an hour or two to relax before having to start my work day. Even if that means going into the office early to just get my things together because in all honesty, a day in the life of a social worker is never predictable.

2. I stopped drinking coffee.

Ok, don't beat me up over this but coffee was actually making things worse for me, it made me super anxious, so I decided to switch to tea. I keep a different assortment of teas at home and at work on my desk. I prefer the taste of fruit over milk and coffee I think now anyways. Not drinking coffee helped me sleep better at night and stay up during the day because when I drank coffee I would notice myself crashing in the middle of the day, but ya know...tea doesn't do that. My favorite brand is Yogi Tea because they are organic and they literally have a tea for everything. I prefer the Raspberry passion fruit energy tea for the morning, and the Kava leave stress tea for the night. Try it. Thank me later.

3. I got more active.

I, again, am not a morning person. However, I have a dog and he needs to use the bathroom outside so it forces me to have to go for walks in the morning. I notice how much more energy I have through out the day, how much more productive I am, and how much happier I feel honestly. I also, stretch after I am done working out and OMG, does that feel amazing (especially as you get older, this should be a requirement!)

4. I meditate.

In the field I am in, I deal with many people throughout the day, with alot of different issues that I need to help them tackle and it can sometimes be hard to protect my own energy from some negative energies I may encounter. Meditating helps me to balance myself and my emotions, thoughts and energy before having to go into a space of dealing with somebody elses'.

Creating a routine takes practice, and it is a daily practice. I started an accountability group with my TikTok supporters and that helps me to stay on track! What are some ways that you reset and reboot yourself when you find yourself falling off? I'd love to hear them!
