It’s February, we have already jump started our fitness goals by hitting the gym last month, gotten our vision boards ready to manifest our 2020 year and setting our intentions.
This month, I decided to try new things and do them with black owned businesses. One of those new things was getting a Brazilian wax and facial from one of my esthetician homegirls and trying a new hair stylist at a new salon that had just opened in my area. I walked into Valentines week feeling Fabulous!
But, talking with a family member about all of the things I had done for myself left her saying, “That just sounds like another bill to me. I’ll pass.”

Well yea, when you look at it like that, you are spending money on something but that something…is you. Why should you feel bad about that? I recall so many times where I would internally shame myself for spending money on myself, thinking, “I know there’s something else I can be using this money on.” Or, “there must be some bill I haven’t paid yet.” But realizing that I was feeling depressed and not wanting to look in the mirror cause my hair wasn’t done(& I love to get my hair slayed, ok?!)

When I feel good, I treat people better, I feel better, and I’m better at my job and at creativity. So, even if I have to set aside money every month like I am a bill, that’s what I will do. Because I want to make sure that not only are my needs met and my bills are taken care of, but that my wants are met and that I feel good after taking care of my responsibilities. We deserve that.
Go out to eat sis. Buy you a new dress. Getcho hair did. Bedazzle your nails. Soak in a bath with your favorite wine with your favorite playlists, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Love you, and make sure them bills are paid.
